Minimally Invasive General Surgery


Dr. Shea is a minimally invasive general and bariatric surgeon.


Originally from New Jersey, about 30 minutes south of New York City, Dr. Shea attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC for his undergraduate education before continuing on to Grenada, an island country off the coast of Venezuela for his medical education. His clinical years in medical school were completed in New Jersey. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Monmouth Medical Center and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. After residency, he and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he completed fellowship training in primary and revisional bariatric surgery, anti-reflux and endoscopic surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.


Dr. Shea is passionate about the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, which offers patients surgical procedures with less pain, less time in the hospital, and faster return to normal activity. In his last year of training, he was also specifically trained in weight loss surgery, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and intragastric balloon. He is excited to be able to offer help to patients who have struggled with weight and obesity related conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea.


Dr. Shea is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons. .


When not in the hospital, he enjoys time with his family, traveling, and is an avid fan of ice hockey. He also is enjoying learning to play guitar, and likes to catch live music whenever he can.
